Eureka, CA – A freeze warning is in effect for parts of Mendocino and Lake counties from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 29°F.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, the warning affects the northwestern and northeastern Mendocino interior, including Potter Valley, Willits, Laytonville, and Covelo, as well as Northern Lake County near Gravelly Valley Airport.
The cold temperatures pose a risk to crops and sensitive vegetation. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect plants, pets, and exposed plumbing from potential damage.
Frost and freeze conditions can also create hazardous travel conditions in low-lying areas. Those driving early Thursday should remain cautious of possible ice patches on roads.
This late-season cold snap follows a trend of fluctuating temperatures in Northern California. Farmers and gardeners are urged to cover plants or bring them indoors, as freezing temperatures may persist through the morning hours.
