Eureka, CA – A Flood Watch has been issued for Northwest California, including Humboldt and Del Norte counties, from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening as an atmospheric river brings heavy rainfall to the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, the storm system is expected to deliver between 3 to 6 inches of rain over the weekend, falling on already saturated ground. The excessive rainfall raises concerns about flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas. Urban flooding and poor drainage issues may also develop.

Officials warn of an increased risk of rock and landslides along roadways, particularly in steep terrain. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant and prepare for potential rising water levels. Motorists are advised to use caution, as water accumulation on roads could create hazardous driving conditions.

This storm follows a series of recent weather systems that have already saturated the ground, heightening the risk of flash flooding. Emergency management agencies urge residents to stay informed through local alerts and avoid travel in flood-affected areas when possible.
