Los Angeles, CA – A flood watch remains in effect for Los Angeles County through Monday, as heavy rainstorms are expected to sweep through the area. Residents near burn scars, including those along Highway 101, face high risks of mudslides and flash flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms and downpours will peak Monday afternoon into the evening, increasing the potential for debris flows. Areas affected include Eaton, Franklin, Palisades, Hughes, and Bridge burn scars, where previous wildfires have made the ground unstable.
Local officials urge residents in these high-risk zones to remain vigilant, monitor evacuation alerts, and avoid traveling through flooded roads. Flash floods can strike with little warning, sweeping away vehicles and debris. If evacuation orders are issued, residents should leave immediately to avoid being trapped by sudden road closures.
Extended Weather Outlook:
• Monday:Thunderstorms, heavy rain. High: 58°F.
• Tuesday:Rain tapers off. High: 60°F.
• Wednesday-Friday:Mostly sunny with highs in the mid-60s.
Drivers along Highway 101 and Pacific Coast Highway are advised to avoid travel through flood-prone areas on Monday. Debris flows could block roads, creating hazardous conditions. Residents should keep a battery-powered radio and emergency supplies on hand, including flashlights and first aid kits.
