Sacramento, Calif. – Fire danger is on the rise across Northern California as gusty north winds and critically low humidity prompt a Fire Weather Watch from Sunday morning through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday across the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys below 1,000 feet, including San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Yolo, Butte, and Solano counties. North winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts up to 35 mph, particularly west of Interstate 5 in the northern and central Sacramento Valley.

The combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity (as low as 15%), and strong winds could cause wildfires to ignite and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during this period, and residents are urged to secure loose items, avoid activities that generate sparks, and prepare defensible space around homes.

Power outages are possible if utility companies preemptively shut off electricity to reduce wildfire risk, similar to past Public Safety Power Shutoffs.

The Fire Weather Watch could escalate into a Red Flag Warning if conditions worsen. Officials advise monitoring updates and being ready to act quickly if evacuations become necessary.
