San Francisco, California – A heightened fire weather risk remains in effect for the East Bay Hills and Diablo Range through tonight, with dry conditions and strong onshore winds creating favorable conditions for wildfires. Winds are expected to gust between 35 and 55 mph, particularly near the Altamont Pass, and dry vegetation could easily catch fire.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the conditions are ideal for rapidly spreading fires, especially in areas where wind and terrain align. The area will experience afternoon relative humidity levels between 30% and 35%, and overnight values will remain between 45% and 60%, with the highest readings found in higher elevations.

The NWS advises that sustained winds of 20-30 mph will continue this afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph near the Altamont Pass. These conditions will keep fire danger elevated, with rapid fire spread possible in any wind-driven blaze.

Travelers and residents are urged to take precautions today and tonight by avoiding activities that may spark fires. Properly dispose of cigarette butts, ensure vehicles are parked on cleared surfaces, and avoid using equipment that could throw sparks.

This elevated fire threat is expected to last until the early hours of tomorrow. Any new warnings or updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
