Grapevine, CA – A magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattled parts of Kern County early Monday afternoon, followed by two smaller quakes just minutes later near Grapevine, a seismically active region along Interstate 5.

According to the California Integrated Seismic Network, the strongest quake struck at 3:09 p.m. local time, centered about 15 kilometers northwest of Grapevine at a depth of 6.0 kilometers. Within ten minutes, two more magnitude 2.5 earthquakes were recorded—both just northwest of the same location—at 3:11 p.m. and 3:19 p.m., respectively.

Although the shaking was classified as light, residents in the Grapevine and Lebec areas submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports to the USGS, with some noting mild shaking and rattling windows. The quakes occurred near the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, a known seismic corridor for strike-slip faults.

No damage or injuries have been reported, but light tremors in this area can affect traffic through the Tejon Pass, a key corridor between Southern and Central California. Drivers on I-5 are advised to stay alert for possible rockfalls or debris.

Seismologists say more minor aftershocks are possible over the next 24 hours. Residents are encouraged to check emergency kits and review quake safety plans.
