Ojai, California – A small but noticeable earthquake rattled parts of Ventura County early Saturday, briefly shaking homes and businesses south of Ojai and across nearby communities.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck about 6 kilometers south of Ojai at around 6 a.m. local time. The quake originated roughly 8 kilometers below the surface, a depth shallow enough for light shaking to be felt across the Ojai Valley, Oak View, and portions of the western Ventura County foothills.
Residents across Ojai, Meiners Oaks, and eastern Ventura reported brief rattling, with some describing a sharp jolt followed by a few seconds of vibration. No injuries or damage were immediately reported, and local emergency managers did not activate response protocols. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said it had not received any calls tied to damage or power outages.
USGS “Did You Feel It?” reports show limited but consistent responses from the Ojai area, suggesting weak to light shaking. Earthquakes of this size are common in Southern California and typically cause little to no structural impact, though officials remind residents to review earthquake safety plans and secure loose items at home.
Seismologists say aftershocks are unlikely but possible. Officials will continue monitoring activity, and residents are encouraged to report shaking to the USGS if they felt the quake.
