Los Angeles, CA – A magnitude 2.5 earthquake rattled parts of Los Angeles County at 8:33 a.m. PDT Monday, centered just 1 kilometer east of Florence-Graham, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck at a depth of 15.7 kilometers and was automatically recorded by the California Integrated Seismic Network. Though classified as minor, some residents in South L.A. reported light shaking, particularly near Compton, Huntington Park, and Watts. As of 9 a.m., at least four people submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports via the USGS.
No damage or injuries were reported, and there were no disruptions to utilities or major infrastructure. However, seismologists advise residents in the region to review earthquake safety plans, as even minor tremors can serve as reminders of larger seismic threats in the area.
This morning’s tremor follows a period of relatively low seismic activity in the greater Los Angeles region, with no significant quakes over magnitude 3.0 in the past week.
⚠️ There is no tsunami risk from this event. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through Caltech and USGS updates.
