The Geysers, CA – A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck just 9 km northwest of The Geysers early Friday morning, shaking parts of Northern California. The earthquake occurred at approximately 6:31 AM UTC (11:31 PM PDT, Wednesday) with a depth of 2.1 kilometers.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor was felt by residents in surrounding areas, including Geyserville, Cloverdale, and Healdsburg. The majority of reports classified the shaking intensity at level III, indicating light to moderate shaking, with some individuals reporting mild shaking in areas further from the epicenter.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located near the well-known geothermal fields of The Geysers, a region frequently experiencing seismic activity due to its geothermal energy production. Despite the tremor, there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries.

The USGS ShakeMap highlighted the estimated intensity across the region, showing the strongest shaking occurring within a 20-30 km radius of the epicenter.

Residents are advised to stay informed about any aftershocks, as is typical following moderate earthquakes. Local emergency services are monitoring the situation closely.
