California – A cold, salty wind moves across the bay this morning as waves push higher along San Francisco’s shoreline. Low light catches the damp pavement, and puddles already spread across waterfront lots as a multi-day Coastal Flood Advisory continues to build urgency for anyone traveling near the bay.
According to the National Weather Service, minor coastal flooding will persist along San Francisco and Monterey Bay bayshore locations until 3 p.m. Sunday. Water may cover roads, lots, pathways, and parks during high tides, and isolated roadway closures remain possible. Drivers should allow extra time, especially on low-lying connectors near Embarcadero, Highway 101 frontage areas, and shoreline routes that typically collect water during December high tides.
Winds stay light today, but rising tides and steady bay surges increase the chance for nuisance flooding during the late-morning and early-evening cycles. Keep caution in mind: even shallow water can hide potholes, debris, or soft shoulders. Residents walking or driving near the waterfront should avoid areas blocked by barricades.
The weather trend remains mostly calm otherwise. Sunshine gradually returns today with highs near 59°F. Friday brings more sun with a high near 61°F, followed by a mild Saturday near 62°F. Cooler, partly cloudy conditions settle in by Sunday as highs reach the lower 60s again.
Nationally, the early-December Arctic Freeze continues tightening across northern states, with long-range models suggesting renewed lake-effect snow between December 11–17, especially around the Great Lakes. Travelers returning from Thanksgiving should check connecting flights through Midwest hubs, where flash-freezing risks increase when melted snow refreezes on shaded roads.
