California – The early-morning air along San Diego’s coast is cool and heavy with salt spray as the Pacific churns under overcast skies. Lifeguards and forecasters are urging caution this week as strong surf and rip currents continue along the shoreline under a Beach Hazard Statement through 10 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, wave action remains elevated through the end of the week, bringing dangerous conditions for swimmers and surfers from La Jolla Cove to Imperial Beach. While the sky stays mostly cloudy early today, a slight chance of showers will move through coastal areas before dry, sunny weather returns Thursday.

Winds stay light, but changing tides and cool ocean temperatures near 60°F will heighten risks of hypothermia and unstable footing near jetties and piers. Beachgoers are advised to swim near lifeguard stations, avoid rock areas, and keep an eye on children and pets close to the waterline.

By Friday, skies clear with highs near 68°F, continuing a stretch of calm, mild days into the weekend. Temperatures could climb toward the mid-70s by early next week, marking a brief warm-up as the West Coast avoids the deep Arctic chill blanketing much of the country.

Five-Day Outlook (San Diego, CA):

  • Today: Slight chance of showers, high 67°F.
  • Thursday: Sunny, high 69°F.
  • Friday: Mostly clear, high 68°F.
  • Saturday: Sunny, high 68°F.
  • Sunday: Sunny, high 73°F.
