Riverside, CA – A Whitewater man has been arrested in connection to a 2019 homicide in La Quinta, marking a significant breakthrough in a years-long cold case investigation.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jorge Huerta-Arias, 24, was taken into custody on Friday and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of murder. The arrest follows a renewed investigation into the October 26, 2019, shooting death of 19-year-old Anthony Carrillo of Cathedral City.
Carrillo was found suffering from gunshot wounds inside a residence in the 53000 block of Avenida Madero shortly after midnight. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit initially took over the case, but the investigation went cold after several years without leads. Earlier this year, detectives reopened the case, identifying new evidence and ultimately naming Huerta-Arias as the suspect.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office stated the investigation remains ongoing and additional details are not being released at this time. Authorities are encouraging anyone with further information to contact Master Investigator J. Manjarrez or Master Investigator V. Magana at the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
