San Francisco, CA — Strong winds and hazardous marine conditions are creating dangerous conditions along California’s coast this weekend. A series of wind advisories, storm warnings, and high surf advisories are in effect across several coastal areas, with gusts up to 50 mph and surf heights reaching 28 feet in some spots.

According to the National Weather Service, gale-force winds of 35 to 50 knots and steep seas of 8 to 17 feet are expected through Sunday night, particularly affecting the Bay Area’s offshore waters. Dangerous boating conditions could result in capsized vessels or damage to boats.

Wind advisories are in place for several regions, including the North Bay, Coastal San Mateo Peninsula, and parts of Monterey County. The first advisory runs until 5 a.m. Sunday, with a second advisory extending from 9 p.m. Sunday through 2 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, those along the coast in Monterey County should take extreme caution as elevated surf, up to 28 feet in some locations, is expected between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Monday. Dangerous rip currents and hazardous swimming conditions will affect beaches, particularly along west and northwest-facing shorelines.

In addition to the hazardous marine conditions, strong winds will make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles. Blowing sand may also impact coastal roads and trails. Residents and visitors are urged to stay informed about these rapidly changing conditions.

These dangerous weather conditions will persist through Sunday, with additional advisories possible as the storm moves through the region.
