Sacramento, CA – Northern California is set to experience rain and thunderstorms on Christmas Eve, with travel conditions expected to worsen along major roadways, including I-80. The storms, combined with gusty winds, could create hazardous conditions for holiday travelers.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will peak Tuesday morning before tapering off by evening. Winds are forecast to reach speeds of 18 mph, with new rainfall amounts up to a quarter inch expected. Drivers are urged to monitor road conditions and allow extra travel time, especially on mountainous stretches of I-80.

By Tuesday night, skies will clear slightly with lows around 42 degrees. Christmas Day will bring calmer weather, with partly sunny skies and highs near 53 degrees. Winds will shift to light northwest breezes, making for a more pleasant day for holiday gatherings.

Looking ahead, rain will return to the region late Wednesday night, continuing into Thursday and Friday. Showers are likely during morning hours, with highs hovering in the mid-50s. Wet roads will persist into the weekend, and drivers should exercise caution throughout the holiday week.
