Calhoun County, MI – A flood watch has been issued for Calhoun County and surrounding areas, effective from this evening through Wednesday evening. The alert, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Rapids, indicates that flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the flood watch affects portions of central, south-central, and southwest Michigan. In addition to Calhoun, impacted counties include Gratiot, Isabella, Montcalm, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Barry, Kalamazoo, Kent, Ottawa, and Van Buren.

The NWS states that the remnants of Hurricane Beryl are expected to bring significant rainfall to lower Michigan tonight. Rainfall amounts are anticipated to be between 2-4 inches, with some areas possibly experiencing 4-6 inches of rain.

Excessive runoff from this rainfall may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents in these areas should monitor local forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action if flooding develops.
