Calhoun County, MI I-94 Closing for Bridge Demolition

Calhoun County, Michigan – Interstate 94 will close in both directions this weekend for demolition of the Michigan Avenue bridge, disrupting traffic between Battle Creek and Marshall.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, crews will demolish the M-96 (Michigan Avenue) bridge over I-94 as part of the Marshall Modernization Project. The closure begins at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, and is scheduled to end by 6 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026.

During demolition, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed between Exit 98 and M-311/11 Mile Road Exit 104. M-96 is already closed at I-94.

Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured via northbound I-194, eastbound Columbia Avenue, eastbound Michigan Avenue, eastbound Wheatfield Parkway and southbound 11 Mile Road. Westbound traffic will detour using Wheatfield Parkway, Michigan Avenue, Columbia Avenue and southbound I-194.

Additional closures include eastbound Columbia Avenue from Riverside Drive to I-94, Columbia Avenue access to Beadle Lake Road, the Beadle Lake Road ramp to eastbound I-94 and portions of 11 Mile Road between Michigan Avenue and Wheatfield Parkway. Several I-94/I-194 interchange ramps will also be closed.

Drivers traveling through Calhoun County, including weekend commuters and commercial traffic, should plan for significant detours and delays.
