Calhoun County, MI – Deputies are investigating another reported break-in at a solar energy site in Sheridan Township after surveillance cameras captured two individuals attempting to access the property early Monday morning.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a breaking-and-entering complaint at River Forks Solar around 4:00 a.m. Monday. Surveillance footage reportedly shows two individuals cutting a padlock on a gate in an attempt to gain access to the solar facility.
Investigators say the suspects appeared to abandon the attempt and leave the area without stealing copper wiring due to weather conditions at the time. No arrests have been made.
Authorities confirmed this incident marks the third breaking-and-entering complaint at the same location within the past month. Earlier incidents at the solar site allegedly involved the theft of zero-turn mowers, power tools, and a large amount of copper wiring, all items commonly targeted in metal theft cases across southern Michigan.
The River Forks Solar facility is located in Sheridan Township, Calhoun County, southeast of Battle Creek.
The sheriff’s office said additional patrols will be conducted in the area as the investigation continues. Detectives are working to identify the individuals seen in the surveillance footage.
Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information related to the incidents is urged to contact Lieutenant Curtis Smith at 269-781-0880. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
Residents living near large industrial or energy sites are encouraged to report suspicious activity, especially during overnight and early morning hours.
