Pennfield Township, MI – Four suspects were taken into custody after an alleged assault and robbery involving a gel blaster prompted a multi-location investigation early Thursday.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 12:35 a.m. Thursday, April 9, to the 1600 block of NE Capital Avenue in Pennfield Township for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male in a parking lot who had been struck multiple times with gel pellets from an Orbeez-style gel blaster.
Investigators said the victim reported that a light-colored SUV pulled up, and three male suspects exited the vehicle, allegedly fired the gel blaster at him, then physically assaulted him. The victim’s phone was also taken during the incident. He was transported by EMS to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for treatment.
According to authorities, a deputy later located a vehicle matching the description near Emmett and Fremont streets in Battle Creek. The vehicle reportedly entered a residence in the 200 block of Fremont Street, where deputies made contact with three males and one female. All four individuals were detained.
During a search, deputies said they recovered gel blasters, gel pellets consistent with those used in the assault, the victim’s phone, and a .40-caliber Glock handgun under a seat.
The suspects — a 21-year-old woman, two 19-year-old men, and a 20-year-old man, all from the Battle Creek area — were arrested without incident. They are facing alleged charges related to robbery and aggravated assault with a weapon. One suspect also faces an additional concealed weapon charge.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office or Silent Observer.
