Cadillac, Michigan – Snow continues to spread across Northern Lower Michigan late this afternoon, with slippery roads and reduced visibility expected through Sunday as multiple Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect.
In Missaukee County, including Cadillac and Lake City, additional snowfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected through 1 p.m. Sunday, with locally higher totals possible if lake-effect bands linger. Farther west and north, including Grand Traverse, Benzie, Kalkaska, Manistee, Wexford, Antrim, and Leelanau counties, storm totals range from 1 to 6 inches, with the highest amounts favored in traditional snowbelt areas. Wind gusts may reach 30 to 35 mph, causing blowing snow and rapidly changing visibility.
According to the National Weather Service office in Gaylord, snow will fall in bands, meaning conditions can vary significantly over short distances. A brief lull may be followed by a burst of heavier snow, quickly coating roads and bridges. Cheboygan, Charlevoix, and Emmet counties will see lighter totals, generally up to 2 inches, with advisories ending earlier, around 7 a.m. Sunday.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight and remain hazardous into Sunday morning, especially on untreated secondary roads, bridges, and overpasses. US-131, M-115, M-55, and M-72 may become slick at times, particularly during heavier lake-effect bursts.
Officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations. According to emergency management officials, pedestrians should also use caution, as sidewalks, driveways, and steps may become icy and slippery.
Snow showers will gradually taper late Sunday morning into early afternoon, but lingering slick spots may persist even after snowfall ends due to cold pavement temperatures.
