Indianapolis, IN – The Butler University Police Department, in collaboration with the Butler University Community Outreach Pharmacy, collected 95 pounds of unused or expired medications during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25.

The event was part of a nationwide DEA initiative that encourages residents to safely dispose of unwanted medications to prevent misuse and environmental harm. Butler’s drop-off station, located at the corner of Hampton Drive and Sunset Avenue, filled five boxes of collected prescriptions thanks to strong community participation and support from student volunteers.

Two student helpers, Felicity and Sonya, assisted throughout the day, greeting participants and organizing donated materials for safe disposal. Police officials said the turnout reflects a growing community commitment to responsible medication management.

Residents are encouraged to monitor future Take Back events or contact local law enforcement for year-round disposal options.
