Hamilton, OH – A traffic stop in Butler County led to a major drug and firearm seizure this week after a K9 unit alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics, authorities said.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Brown and his K9 partner, K9 Kilo, assisted the Hamilton Police Department during a traffic stop that uncovered a loaded .380 handgun, 85.4 grams of methamphetamine, 12.9 grams of crack cocaine, 2.9 grams of fentanyl, and $1,409 in cash.
The driver, identified as Gary Rumph, 32, was reportedly on parole for prior drug and weapon charges. He was taken into custody and faces multiple felony counts, including trafficking and possession of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl, along with firearm-related offenses.
Authorities charged Rumph with 13 offenses in total, ranging from trafficking in methamphetamine (F2) to weapons under disability (F3). Deputies also cited him for improper handling of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
The Sheriff’s Office highlighted the case as an example of effective teamwork between local law enforcement agencies and the vital support provided by K9 units in drug enforcement operations.
