Liberty Township, OH – A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Thursday night after what investigators say was an accidental shooting near Woodland Elementary School in Liberty Township.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9 p.m. on October 8, 2025, to the 6900 block of Dutchland Parkway for reports of a juvenile with a gunshot wound. The teen’s friends reportedly carried him to a nearby school parking lot, where paramedics took him to UC West Chester Hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators said the teen and two friends had been walking from the Lakota Point Townhomes toward a Kroger store when the shooting occurred. Detectives later found a black and purple 9mm handgun inside a dumpster near the school parking lot. That firearm had been reported stolen to the West Chester Police Department earlier this week.
After reviewing surveillance footage from Woodland Elementary, detectives concluded the wound likely resulted from an accidental discharge by one of the juveniles while behind the dumpster.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
