Butler, PA – A Butler County man is in custody after allegedly leading Pennsylvania State Police on a multi-county pursuit earlier this week that ended in Armstrong County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop D – Kittanning, 46-year-old Ronald R. Piper was apprehended Tuesday morning in Butler City following a chase that began around 4:41 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2025.
Troopers say Piper allegedly attempted to strike an officer with his vehicle after spike strips were deployed on Route 422 near East Franklin Township. He then fled into a wooded area and escaped on foot.
Hours later, around 5 a.m. Tuesday, police received a report of a stolen vehicle on Bear Road, near where the pursuit had ended. Investigators believe Piper stole that vehicle after crashing his own. The stolen car was later found damaged on State Route 422 near Swartzlander Lane in Clearfield Township.
Police say Piper also allegedly stole a second car — a gray 2005 Honda Civic with Pennsylvania registration MCV7837 — before his capture.
Piper faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia, among others. He is being held at the Butler County Prison.
