CHICAGO – Dorel Juvenile Group (Dorel), a well-known brand of juvenile products, has issued a recall alert for specific models of their child car seats. The recall includes Safety 1st onBoard 35 Secure Tech, Maxi-Cosi Coral XP, Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Max, Maxi-Cosi Mico XP, Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe+, and Maxi-Cosi Infant Base child seats.
According to Dorel’s recall report, the lower seat anchors used to secure the child seat base may fail, causing the child seat to detach. This poses a serious safety risk to the child in the event of a crash, as the child seat would not provide adequate protection. The affected child seats fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213, “Child Restraint Systems.”
Owners of the affected child seats are advised to only secure their child seat(s) with the vehicle belt restraint system until the seat is remedied. Dorel will mail a replacement base to owners, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on April 7, 2023.
For more information, owners of the affected child seats can contact Dorel customer service at 1-877-657-9546 or RetractableLatchRecall@djgusa.com. It is important for parents and caregivers to act promptly to ensure the safety of their children when using child car seats.
Dorel has emphasized that the seats involved in this recall can still be used safely with a seat belt install, as long as the lower seat anchors are not used. It is crucial for parents and caregivers to take the necessary steps to ensure their child’s safety while in the car.
