Burr Ridge, IL – A DuPage County judge has denied pre-trial release for a Burr Ridge man accused of killing his mother with a hammer in the family home last week.
According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, 37-year-old Oscar Rodriguez was initially charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking his mother, Virna Rodriguez, on February 21. After she succumbed to her injuries Sunday, his charges were upgraded to first-degree murder.
Authorities allege a witness in the home saw Rodriguez standing behind the victim, then ran and locked herself in a room when he chased her. He was later arrested without incident. Rodriguez’s next court date is March 13.
