Burlington, Vt. – Vermonters are soaking up another hot summer day Saturday with temperatures climbing into the mid-80s and even near 90 in some areas, but a sharp change is on the way. A cold front will bring widespread rain showers across the state Sunday, ending the recent streak of dry, sunny weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, rain chances increase to 70–80% Sunday afternoon into the evening as the front sweeps across the region. Temperatures will cool slightly into the upper 70s during the day, but storms could make for a messy end to the weekend. Drivers should plan for reduced visibility and wet roads, particularly on I-89 and U.S. Route 7.

Behind the front, much cooler and drier air moves in Monday. Highs will only reach the upper 60s to mid-70s across Vermont, with plenty of sunshine and lower humidity providing relief from the weekend heat. Outdoor activities and travel should be far more comfortable early next week.

Conditions will remain seasonable into midweek, with no immediate return of extreme heat expected. More updates are likely as the week progresses, especially if additional showers develop after Wednesday.
