According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms will develop Monday, especially across northern New York, where temperatures will climb into the upper 70s to mid-80s. Most of Monday’s activity is expected to diminish after sunset.
Rain and thunderstorm coverage will increase Tuesday as a slow-moving storm system approaches the region. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected, with heavy downpours possible across much of Vermont and northern New York. Afternoon highs will remain in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
The greatest concern arrives Wednesday, when widespread rain overspreads the region. Forecasters expect periods of steadier rainfall with locally heavy rain, particularly across southern Vermont, where the highest rainfall totals are anticipated. Temperatures will be cooler, with highs mainly in the 70s.
Conditions begin improving Thursday as showers and a few thunderstorms linger, but a gradual drying trend is expected later in the day with temperatures recovering into the 70s and near 80 degrees.
Drivers should be prepared for ponding on roads during heavier rainfall, allow extra travel time, and avoid driving through flooded roadways if localized flooding develops. Additional forecasts or flood-related advisories may be issued as confidence in rainfall amounts and storm placement increases through midweek.
