Burlington, VT – After weeks of dry weather, a widespread soaking brought much-needed relief to Vermont and the North Country on Monday, with several areas picking up more than 2 to 3 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington.

The heaviest rain fell across central and northern Green Mountains and parts of the Champlain Valley, where some communities recorded totals over 3 inches, including localized peaks near Rutland and Addison Counties. Most other parts of the state saw between 1 and 2 inches.

Forecasters say the rainfall helped replenish moisture in drought-stricken regions, though river levels remain within normal ranges. Additional light, showery rain is possible Wednesday, but no significant flooding is expected.

The National Weather Service described the event as a beneficial system for fall foliage and soil recovery ahead of the coming colder weeks. Residents can expect cooler, breezy conditions to persist through midweek before high pressure settles in by the weekend.
