Burlington, VT – Slick travel conditions early Saturday are giving way to gradual improvement, but another round of hazardous winter weather is expected late Sunday into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, much of northern New York and Vermont experienced accumulating snow overnight into early Saturday, resulting in slippery roads during the morning hours. Conditions are expected to improve through the day as clouds decrease and precipitation tapers.

High temperatures Saturday will reach the upper teens to middle 20s, with light winds helping road crews make progress on untreated surfaces. Motorists are still urged to use caution this morning, especially on secondary roads, bridges, and shaded areas where snow and ice may linger.

Sunday will be a few degrees milder and dry, but forecasters caution that conditions will deteriorate again Sunday night into Monday as freezing rain develops. The National Weather Service warned that freezing rain and hazardous travel are likely, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

While precipitation amounts remain uncertain, even light freezing rain could create icy roadways, making travel difficult across the region. The combination of cold ground temperatures and freezing rain increases the risk for widespread slick surfaces.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of improved conditions Saturday to complete errands and prepare for potential travel disruptions early next week. Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and monitor forecast updates closely as timing and impacts become clearer.

Commuters, students, and early-morning workers should be prepared for hazardous travel conditions Monday morning, with additional updates and possible advisories expected as the system approaches.
