Burlington, VT – Drivers across central and southern Vermont are facing slippery roads and slow travel tonight as a winter storm continues to move through the region, bringing several inches of accumulating snow during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday, with total snowfall expected to range between 3 and 9 inches across Orange, Rutland, Addison, and Windsor counties. The storm is producing intermittent bands of heavier snow, with short periods exceeding 1 inch per hour.

The weather service said the snow will continue to create difficult and hazardous driving conditions this evening, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and higher-elevation routes. Areas including Rutland, Bradford, Randolph, Ludlow, Springfield, Bristol, Killington, and White River Junction are expected to see the most significant impacts.

NWS officials noted that the heaviest snowfall will taper off later tonight, though clearing roads may remain a challenge for overnight and early-morning drivers. Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing, increasing the risk of slick surfaces.

As a precaution, emergency officials urge Vermonters to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep extra food, water, and a flashlight in their vehicles if driving is essential.
