Burlington, Vt. – Rounds of rain are expected across Vermont and northern New York through Friday, with some areas likely to collect more than an inch of rainfall. The National Weather Service in Burlington says the steady showers will help cool temperatures, keeping highs in the 60s to near 70 through Thursday.
According to the weather service, the heaviest rainfall is forecast in southern Vermont, where Brattleboro could see up to 1.72 inches and Springfield 1.57 inches by Friday afternoon. Northern locations such as St. Albans, Burlington, and Newport are expected to pick up between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch. The Adirondacks and parts of upstate New York, including Watertown and Potsdam, could see totals over an inch as well.
The rain will provide beneficial moisture for local rivers and soil, but drivers should watch for ponding on roadways during heavier bursts. Outdoor plans may be interrupted by passing showers, especially during the evening and morning commutes.
Showers are expected to taper off late Friday, with drier conditions likely to follow into the weekend. Additional updates will be issued if rainfall totals or storm intensity increase.
