Burlington, VT – A developing weather system is bringing a wintry mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain to northern New York and Vermont today and tonight, creating hazardous travel conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of northern New York, where ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch and snow totals near 2 inches are expected. The most significant icing is likely near the St. Lawrence Valley and along portions of the Adirondacks, where forecasters note “the greatest uncertainty for precipitation type.”
Snowfall amounts will generally range from less than an inch in Vermont to 1–3 inches across northern New York, with temperatures hovering near freezing throughout the event. Forecasters say light ice accumulation could make untreated roads and sidewalks slick, especially during the evening commute and overnight hours.
Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling and to monitor updated forecasts as conditions evolve. The system is expected to taper off early Monday morning as colder, drier air moves into the area.
