Burlington, VT – Drivers across southern Vermont could face slick roads and reduced visibility by Wednesday evening as a band of light to moderate snow moves in from the south, while much of northern Vermont stays largely dry.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, snowfall will develop Wednesday afternoon and continue through early Thursday morning, with the steadiest accumulation focused south of Rutland and Windsor counties. Forecasters expect 2 to 5 inches in southern Vermont, including Bennington, Manchester and Springfield, with totals dropping off sharply toward Middlebury, Montpelier and St. Albans. Northern New York, including Plattsburgh and Massena, is also expected to see minimal impact.
Road conditions could deteriorate quickly after sunset Wednesday, especially along U.S. Route 7, Route 9 and portions of Interstate 91 in southern Vermont. Commuters should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds and prepare for snow-covered secondary roads. School officials in southern counties may monitor conditions for possible delays Thursday morning.
The snow is expected to taper before daybreak Thursday, though patchy slick spots could linger into the morning commute. Additional updates are possible if the system shifts farther north.
