Burlington, VT – After weeks of dry weather, parts of Vermont and northern New York could finally see significant rainfall beginning Sunday, as a slow-moving cold front pushes into the region early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected from Sunday morning through early Tuesday, bringing a 50% to 68% chance of at least half an inch of rain across much of the state. Burlington sits at a 48% probability, with even higher chances around Barre, Middlebury, and southern areas near Saratoga Springs.

Localized downpours could bring much-needed relief to dry soils but may also lead to minor street flooding or travel delays, especially during peak hours Monday. Areas like Rutland, Montpelier, and Swanton should prepare for potential thunderstorms, which may arrive in multiple waves through Monday night.

Residents are encouraged to clear storm drains, delay outdoor plans, and stay alert to lightning risk during active storm periods. Road crews may be needed if rainbands linger in one area too long.

Rain chances remain elevated until Tuesday morning, with updates expected as the front’s timing becomes clearer.
