Burlington, Vermont – Bitter cold, gusty winds, and accumulating snow are expected to impact the Burlington area this week, according to the National Weather Service.
As of early Tuesday morning, conditions at Burlington International Airport showed an overcast sky with a temperature of 18 degrees. West winds were sustained near 16 mph, with gusts reaching up to 29 mph, producing wind chill values as low as 7 degrees below zero. Forecasters warn that wind chills will remain below zero at times through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service forecast, today will remain mostly cloudy and breezy, with a high near 14 degrees. Wind gusts could reach up to 37 mph, increasing the risk of frostbite for those spending extended time outdoors.
Snow chances increase Wednesday afternoon, with snow becoming likely Wednesday night. New snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible across the Burlington area. Snowfall combined with gusty winds may reduce visibility at times and create slippery road conditions, particularly during overnight travel.
Wednesday night temperatures are expected to fall near 9 degrees, with wind chill values around zero. Conditions briefly improve on New Year’s Day, with partly sunny skies and a high near 14 degrees, though cold air remains firmly in place.
Thursday night is expected to be the coldest period of the week, with lows dropping to around 2 degrees. Daytime highs remain below normal through Saturday, with highs generally in the teens and low 20s.
