Burlington, VT – Residents across northern Vermont and northern New York are facing a bitterly cold Veterans Day, with wind chills in the single digits and teens this morning and lingering snow showers expected through the day, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington.

Forecasters report that northwesterly wind gusts up to 35 mph are adding to the chill, keeping feels-like temperatures well below freezing. Highs will only reach the upper 20s to low 30s this afternoon, but it will feel colder due to persistent winds.

“After last night’s snow, untreated roadways may still be slippery this morning,” the NWS cautioned, urging travelers to use extra caution on secondary and shaded roads. Light snow showers may continue into early afternoon, mainly across the northern mountains and the Adirondacks.

By tonight, temperatures will remain below freezing with continued gusty winds, though conditions are expected to gradually improve midweek as the region transitions to drier weather and slightly milder air.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to bundle up, drive slowly, and watch for slick spots throughout the morning commute.
