Vermont – A biting chill is settling over Burlington today, and colder air is already pushing temperatures toward winter-like levels as scattered snow showers begin to develop.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, daytime highs are only reaching between 35°F and 40°F today, with an even colder push arriving by Tuesday when highs struggle to reach the upper 20s to mid-30s. Light snow showers will move through at times, with minor accumulations possible.
Across Burlington, Montpelier, and St. Albans, bursts of snow may briefly reduce visibility and coat roads, especially during heavier pockets. While totals remain light, untreated surfaces could become slick, particularly during early morning and evening hours. Drivers should stay alert on I-89, Route 7, and secondary roads where temperatures hover near freezing.
The bigger concern is the sustained cold. Overnight lows dip well below freezing, creating conditions favorable for refreezing and patchy ice. Early spring plants and budding trees could take a hit from the extended cold stretch.
By midweek, sunshine returns more consistently, but temperatures remain cool, with highs gradually climbing back into the upper 30s and low 40s. A more meaningful warm-up may arrive later in the week, but for now, winter is making a brief comeback.
Plan for winter-like travel at times and dress in layers. Are you seeing snow showers or just the cold in your area today?
