Burlington, VT – Light snow spreading across northern Vermont early Wednesday may create hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.

According to the US National Weather Service Burlington, a period of light snow is expected this morning, with totals ranging from a quick dusting to a few inches depending on location. Snow arrival times began around 3 a.m. near the New York border and will expand eastward through 9 a.m., including along Interstate 89 and Interstate 91 corridors.

Storm total snowfall projections show the highest amounts in southern Vermont, including Manchester at 3.4 inches and Bennington near 2.2 inches. Glens Falls, New York, could see around 2.8 inches. In central Vermont, Rutland may receive about 1.1 inches, while Montpelier is forecast near 0.4 inches. Burlington totals are expected around 0.4 inches.

Farther northeast, St. Johnsbury may see approximately 0.8 inches, while areas near Lincoln could approach 2.7 inches. Across the Champlain Valley and into northern New York, including Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake, totals are generally expected under one inch.

Forecasters emphasized that hazardous travel conditions are possible, particularly during the early morning hours as snowfall rates briefly increase. Roads along I-89, I-91 and US-7 could become slick before temperatures gradually improve later in the day.

While snowfall amounts are not expected to be extreme, even minor accumulations may impact school transportation routes and early work commutes. Drivers are urged to use caution and allow additional travel time.

Snow is expected to taper later Wednesday as conditions gradually improve across the region.
