Burlington, VT – A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in Burlington for the northern Champlain Valley, where slick roads and light snow are creating hazardous travel conditions through Wednesday evening.
Forecasters report that an additional coating to one inch of snow is expected across the region through tonight, with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s keeping many surfaces icy. Commuters in and around Burlington, St. Albans, and northern Addison County should plan for slippery conditions on untreated roads, sidewalks, and bridges.
“There have been reports of slippery conditions in the Burlington area,” the NWS said. “Slippery travel conditions will be possible through the evening commute, especially on untreated surfaces.”
The light snow is expected to taper off later tonight, but any remaining moisture could freeze overnight, leading to patchy ice Thursday morning. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and use caution when braking.
This marks the second day in a row of slick conditions for parts of Vermont following recent snowfall and freezing drizzle. Road crews are advising travelers to allow extra time and to avoid sudden stops or lane changes, particularly along Interstate 89 and U.S. Route 7 where road temperatures are near freezing.
Conditions should improve by early Thursday as skies clear and temperatures remain in the upper 20s to low 30s.
