Burlington, VT – Snow is expected to develop late Wednesday morning across northern Vermont, bringing 1 to 5 inches of accumulation and hazardous travel conditions through the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Burlington.

Forecasters say snow will begin between 9 a.m. and noon, with the heaviest rates occurring from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Localized higher totals are possible in the mountain regions, where terrain-enhanced snowfall may add several additional inches.

The NWS warns that visibility could drop rapidly during the heaviest snow bands, particularly along Interstate 89 and Route 7, and that untreated roads are likely to become slick through the day. Motorists should allow extra time and reduce speeds if traveling during the afternoon commute.

Temperatures will hover near freezing through early evening before dipping into the 20s overnight, leading to refreezing of slush and wet surfaces by Thursday morning. Additional light snow showers may linger across northern Vermont into early Thursday, but most of the accumulation will occur today.

Officials advise keeping emergency kits in vehicles and staying weather-aware as road conditions deteriorate through this evening. Commuters are encouraged to check local road reports before heading out.
