Burlington, Vermont – Heavy showers and thunderstorms could drench parts of Vermont late Friday into Saturday, raising the risk of localized flash flooding, particularly in the northern counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, storms may repeatedly move over the same areas, producing 1 to 2 inches of rain in the south and up to 3 inches near the Canadian border. The exact track remains uncertain, but areas in the northeast quadrant of the state—including parts of Orleans, Essex, and Lamoille counties—could see the highest rainfall totals.

Flood-prone roads and low-lying areas are at greatest risk, especially if heavier thunderstorms materialize overnight Friday. Emergency managers are urging residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to monitor alerts closely. If conditions shift south, higher rainfall totals could also impact towns like Montpelier and Barre.

Localized flooding may disrupt travel or affect utilities. Residents should clear storm drains, charge electronic devices, and prepare for potential power outages or road closures through early Saturday.

Storm watches remain in effect, and additional advisories may be issued as rainfall totals become clearer.
