Burlington, VT – A fast-moving cold front will sweep through Vermont this afternoon and evening, bringing a quick round of rain showers, gusty winds, and a brief mix of snow in higher elevations.

According to the US National Weather Service Burlington, the best chance of precipitation will occur between 4 and 7 p.m., moving from west to east across the state. Areas above 2,500 feet, including Mount Mansfield and Mount Marcy, could see a brief period of snow before quickly changing over to rain as temperatures rise.

Winds will be a key factor, with southerly gusts of 20 to 30 mph expected, especially in the Champlain Valley and north–south oriented mountain valleys. While rain chances are high, total precipitation will remain light — generally 0.05” to 0.3”, with slightly higher amounts possible in the mountains.

The system’s quick movement means limited rainfall totals, but cloudy and upslope showers are expected to linger into Saturday. Temperatures will stay seasonable through the weekend before cooler weather arrives early next week.
