Burke County, ND Traffic Alert: Injury Crash Near ND-50 Saturday

Burke County, North Dakota – Two drivers were injured in a crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup on North Dakota Highway 50.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the injury crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 63 on ND-50, west of Powers Lake. Road conditions at the time were described as icy, with freezing rain reported in the area.

Authorities said a 2007 Kenworth semi truck and trailer was traveling westbound when a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, traveling eastbound, lost control on the icy roadway and crossed into the westbound lane. The semi struck the pickup in a T-bone-style collision, impacting the passenger side of the truck.

The driver of the semi, a 54-year-old man from Idaho, was not wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries, according to the Highway Patrol. He was transported to Tioga Medical Center for treatment.

The pickup driver, a 56-year-old man from Powers Lake, was also not wearing a seat belt and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Trinity Hospital in Minot for medical care.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Powers Lake Police Department, Powers Lake Ambulance, and the Powers Lake Fire Department.

Traffic along ND-50 was impacted during the emergency response as crews worked under hazardous winter conditions.

No charges have been filed at this time. Authorities stated the crash remains under investigation.

Drivers traveling in Burke County were urged to use caution during freezing rain events, especially along rural highways such as ND-50, where ice can develop quickly during evening hours.
