Huntsville, AL – The National Weather Service in Huntsville says residents across northern Alabama and southern Tennessee should prepare for a chilly and damp start to December, as below-normal temperatures and several rounds of rain move through the region.
The week begins with a steady rain Monday into Tuesday morning, bringing 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall to much of the Tennessee Valley. Temperatures will remain well below seasonal averages, with highs in the 40s to near 50°F and lows dipping into the 20s and low 30s.
After a brief lull midweek on Wednesday, another system approaches by Thursday night, ushering in additional rainfall that may persist into the upcoming weekend.
While no severe weather or flooding is expected, the cool and damp conditions will make for a raw start to December. The NWS recommends taking precautions to protect pets and sensitive plants, check on neighbors, and dress in layers when heading outdoors.
Drivers should also use caution during the morning commutes, as wet roads and chilly temperatures could create patchy fog or slick spots early in the day.
