Buffalo, N.Y. – A weak cold front will sweep across western New York on Thursday, bringing partly to mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s. But residents in the Southern Tier should prepare for a wetter start to the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, isolated afternoon showers may develop across the Southern Tier on Friday, with a higher likelihood of rain spreading across the region by Friday night into Saturday. Highs will range from 70°F to 76°F Friday, with cooler conditions near Lake Ontario.

Cities like Olean, Jamestown, and Elmira could see showers beginning Friday afternoon, while areas around Buffalo and Rochester are expected to stay dry until later that evening. Saturday will be the wettest of the three-day stretch, with scattered to numerous showers likely in the Southern Tier and highs dipping to the upper 60s.

Drivers are advised to stay weather-aware, especially on secondary roads in hilly terrain where visibility may drop during heavier showers. Keep devices charged and umbrellas handy if traveling late Friday or Saturday.

Rain chances continue through Saturday evening, with the potential for more updates from the NWS as systems develop.
