Buffalo, NY – Rainfall and much cooler temperatures will persist across western New York today, especially along and south of the New York State Thruway. After days of warmer weather, residents will experience notably cooler conditions before dry and pleasant weather returns Friday and lasts through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, rainfall will intensify in the Southern Tier region today, with amounts ranging between 0.5 to 1 inch, while areas closer to the Thruway can expect rainfall totals between 0.1 to 0.25 inches. Temperatures across western New York will peak in the mid-70s at lower elevations and linger in the cooler mid-60s within higher terrain areas.
In Buffalo and surrounding Erie County, drivers are advised to anticipate wet road conditions, especially during afternoon and evening commutes. Communities farther south, including Jamestown and Olean, should prepare for more significant rainfall, possibly affecting local roadways and outdoor activities.
Officials urge residents to travel with caution on slick roads, allowing additional travel time and reducing speeds. Homeowners are also encouraged to check gutters and drainage systems to avoid localized flooding.
Cool, wet conditions are expected to persist throughout today, with clearing beginning late Thursday evening. Sunshine and pleasant temperatures with lower humidity are expected to return Friday and continue throughout the weekend.
