Buffalo, NY – Drivers across western New York could encounter slick roads during the morning commute as snow showers continue with temperatures stuck below freezing.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, light snow will persist through the morning hours, producing minor additional accumulations generally under 1 inch. Snow will taper from west to east by late morning into the afternoon, but untreated roads may remain slippery as temperatures hover near or below 32°F.
The most impacted areas include Buffalo, Rochester, Batavia, and Watertown, where bursts of snow could briefly reduce visibility and coat roadways. Major routes such as I-90, I-190, and Route 33 may see slick stretches, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Daytime highs will remain 15 to 20 degrees below normal, struggling into the low to mid-30s, keeping conditions cold enough for snow to stick in shaded areas. By tonight, temperatures drop sharply into the teens inland and low 20s near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, increasing the risk of refreezing.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for icy patches. Conditions improve this afternoon, but cold weather and additional advisories may follow into tonight.
