Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service in Buffalo is warning residents to prepare for a stretch of wet and windy weather as a soaking rain moves into western New York tonight, followed by gusty winds heading into the weekend.

Forecasters say moderate to heavy rain will begin late Wednesday evening and spread northward through Thursday, bringing 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall to much of the region. Rain showers will continue into Friday, when northeast winds strengthen, producing gusts of 30 to 40 mph.

Despite the incoming storm, Wednesday will remain calm with patchy fog and frost possible early, followed by sunshine and mild fall conditions.

Drivers should use caution on wet roads late tonight and into Thursday morning, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Friday night as the rain tapers off, giving way to a cool, breezy start to the weekend.
