Buffalo, N.Y. – Another dangerously hot and humid day is baking western and north central New York, with heat index values soaring into the triple digits in several cities, including Rochester, Geneva, and Batavia. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday, and officials are urging residents to take precautions.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, apparent temperatures — or “feels like” values — are expected to reach 100°F to 103°F in areas like Geneva, Dansville, and Albion. Even along the Lake Erie shore, cities such as Buffalo and Jamestown are seeing heat index readings in the mid to upper 90s.

The advisory covers much of western and north central New York, stretching from Lockport to Watertown, and includes major roadways such as I-90 and I-86. Outdoor workers are advised to take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces. Residents are also reminded to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.

This marks one of the hottest stretches so far this summer, with Geneva peaking at 103°F — among the highest values reported in the region today.

Warnings remain in effect until 6 p.m., with slightly cooler air expected by midweek. Additional advisories may be issued if heat persists.
