Buffalo, NY – A frost advisory has been issued for several western and northern New York counties, with temperatures expected to dip into the low to mid-30s overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through 9 a.m. Thursday for Oswego, Jefferson, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties, including the cities of Oswego, Watertown, Olean, and Wellsville.

Forecasters warn that frost formation is likely, which could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected. Residents are encouraged to cover plants, move potted flowers indoors, or take other precautions to prevent frost damage.

This frost event highlights the continued seasonal shift into October, with colder overnight conditions expected to become more common across western and northern New York.

Residents waking up early Thursday should expect to see patchy frost on lawns, gardens, and vehicles before temperatures gradually warm later in the morning.
